More From The Bike Path

So I'm taking my bike on a spin (September 3) and just get on the bike path as this girl on rollerskates gets on at the same time, too. I think I'll just pass her and step up my pedaling to get around her. OK, a little winded but I'm past her and I can slow down a little and pace myself. I look back and she's right behind me. I step it up a little more and, same thing, she's right there, I can't shake her. I finally decide to slow up and move to the left before I have a heart attack. She passes me and here are the pictures of her pouring it on. Geez, I was on a bike and she was like Secretariat on steroids. Speaking of Secretariat, Disney is coming out with a movie soon. Do yourself a favor and go to You Tube and type in Secretariat Belmont or somethign like that. It will display an incredible performance by a horse - she won by 30 lengths. Awesome race. Awesome horse.

I almost missed this guy while walking on the bike path today (August 26). He was well hidden and was very still until I stopped. Then he got nervous and was walking away. It is a Green Heron and what with the monsoon season in full swing down here, the ditches along the path are full of water, and probably things herons like to eat.

This little guy wasn't on the bike path but he did greet me as I came back to the apartment. These cute little lizards use their suctioned feet to scamper all over these exterior walls, and once in a while, they get inside. That's when you see the darling cats stare at a corner for days. Poor stupid cats.

I love old cars and I'd like to go exploring over this fence to check out what appears to be a 1960 or '61 Mercury Meteor or Ford Comet (right). Not sure about the one under the tarp on the left but I'll check it out next time I'm around here.

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant
