We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat - Part 2

Welcome back to the Miss Pass-A-Grille for our deep sea fishing trip. We are just about at our spot and ready to fish.   Like I said yesterday, Drew wanted to do something nice for me since I take care of Norah.  It was all hush-hush with whispered conversations and sneaky glances.  I knew something was coming up but all specifics were kept from me.

Blue seems underwhelmed by the whole thing.  He sleeps just at the door to the wheelhouse where his master and our Captain is about to stop the boat and our adventure starts in earnest.

Not all of the fish were huge.  Like Neighbor Tim says, "Anyone can catch a big fish."

Our bucket fun begins.

Drew with a nice one.  Unfortunately it was out of season.

After a tutorial on casting and bringing the fish up, we begin our fishing.  Within 3 minutes these were already caught.  I caught the first one and it was a nice sized sea bass.  Snapper, grouper, and sea bass were caught.  Someone even caught a puffer fish.

Look at this one Nancy hauled up.  There's Kenzie and Drew working their lines as well. Unfortunately everyone on kinder hooks hoping for more pictures are surely going to be disappointed at this point.  Your blogger shutter bug put down his camera and lifted his rod and reel.  There are no pics of our catching prowess, so, sadly I'll let yo9u see our haul when we get back to the dock and get theme cleaned.

Our fishing over, with our bucket full, time to head back and reflect on a super time.

One of the staff toiled us these boats gather and form a circle and fish all day.

Heading back to shore we know we are close to civilization as we start spotting boats.

Our fishing party and our catch.  (OK not all of those are ours.)

The crew begins to clean the fish for us, and throwing scraps to the pelicans.

Our cleaning crew and the birds who appreciate the treats.

These guys were pretty good at cleaning and fast, too.

This is the fish fry we had a week later.  Snapper, grouper and bass bedecked our plates.  It was, needlessly to say, a great meal.  This was a wonderful trip and is something that I recommend any visitors to experience.  What fun!  The fish seemed to fall on our hooks and they fought well on the trip up to the deck.  The staff baited our hooks, unwound the string after I screwed it up, and helped haul it up when it seemed to heavy.  Great trip.  Now, all my friends up north, book your trip down and I'll make all the arrangements for the charter.
Finally, thanks to Drew who hatched this surprise for his newly minted father-in-law.  I promised I'd take care of their kid a while longer.  And everyone is happy.

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant
