Move Over Illinois

Political In Nature - Do Not Read If Easily Offended (No Parties Mentioned)

Move over Illinois.  You are no longer at the pinnacle of  embarrassing national political discourse or, perhaps more appropriately,  intercourse, depending on your level of humor.  You will note that not once in this post is either party mentioned.  You can look all this up if interested.  My guess is you have already read this, so it's old news to many.  But perhaps other readers, who may be residents in far off lands or those who hide in the pucker brush of Montana may not be up on their Yahoo news.

Illinois, you have been usurped by Georgia and Arkansas.  Two governors in prison, crooked Chicago politics ans a state debt that is insurmountable and you still your lose your its place atop the dung-pile detritus.  Arkansas, never a place known for forward thinking or even any thinking at all,  out does itself for aboriginal thinking.  We always thought Arkansas was about a hundred years behind the rest of us, but who knew it was 500 years behind us?  But first a Neanderthal representing the great enlightened 10th District of Georgia made his modernist thoughts public.

1.  Representative Paul Broun - Georgia

“God’s word is true. I’ve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior. You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I’ve found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I don’t believe that the Earth’s but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.
And what I’ve come to learn is that it’s the manufacturer’s handbook, is what I call it. It teaches us how to run our lives individually, how to run our families, how to run our churches. But it teaches us how to run all of public policy and everything in society. And that’s the reason as your congressman I hold the Holy Bible as being the major directions to me of how I vote in Washington, D.C., and I’ll continue to do that.”

And the earth is flat,  witches inhabit Salem,  Eclipses are signs from the gods.   Broun also said he believes the earth is 9,000 years old and that it was created in 6 days.

Congressman Paul Broun demonstrating in two simple paragraphs why he should be removed from office. Its that last sentence — right there — where he basically says that the bible is a more important guide to how he legislates than the Constitution that he swore a sacred oath to uphold. Right there is why he is absolutely unfit to serve as anything other than the guy who cleans out the sewers of his native Athens, Georgia.

Oh, and FYI — Congressman Broun is the Chairman of the House Science Committee.

2.  Representative Jon Hubbard - Arkansas

Arkansas Representative Jon Hubbard believes that African-Americans are better off because of slavery.  He says because of being captured and enslaved they live in the best country in the world.  Tell that to the almost 4,000 poor black chaps who were lynched during 1882 and 1968.

He says our Education system is worse off because of integration.  He writes: "Wouldn't life for blacks in America today be more enjoyable and successful if they would only learn to appreciate the value of a good education?"

3.  Representative Loy Mauch -       Arkansas

Representative Mauch has compared Abraham Lincoln to the Nazi generals, communists and actively sought to remove Lincoln's statue from Hot Springs.  He also said slavery couldn't have been that bad because Jesus or Paul didn't condemn it in the Bible.

4.  Fmr. Representative Charlie Fuqua - Arkansas

And then we come to Charlie Fuqua, a real charmer, who advocates the execution of disobedient children and any prisoner with a sentence of 2 years or more.  He also says we should have a mass removal of all Muslims in America, something Mr. Hubbard calls for also.

Illinois, you bastion of reasonableness, you tower of righteous nobility, you have a long way to sink before you can claim the same cesspool as Georgia and Arkansas. Broun is unopposed in November,  Hubbard and Mauch are shoe-ins for their district re-elections.  And Fuqua who is running to get his seat back is heavily financed by the party.   Oh, and one more thing, all of these fellows are in the same political party.  I can't make this stuff up, and if you want to do a little fact-checking for yourselves,  go ahead and do your homework.  Of course, since this is America you have the right to say and write these things, but then to get elected to influence the future of this country is, depending on your opinions and century you live, quite, uh...shall we say,  risking a lot.  There are those who say America is on the decline.  One need only to look to Congress to see if that is prophetic or panic.

The Following are the tenets of the Enlightenment which was progressing in the 1500's, 5oo years ago.  To me, I was wrong, they were more enlightened in 1512 than parts of Georgia and Arkansas are in 2012.

THE ENLIGHTENMENT
Foundations of Enlightenment
1) Methods of Science could and should be used to examine and understand all aspects of life
• “Reason” over “Faith”
Advocated scientific & intellectual exploration
This approach will bring Science into direct conflict with the Church
- Refused to bow to authority (esp. Church authority)
THE ENLIGHTNMENT
Foundations of Enlightenment
2) Scientific Method can be applied to society as well as nature
• Birth of “Social Science”
3) Armed with “Social Science,” man can make definite “Progress” toward a better society
Order and Progress was a catch phrase of the day

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant
