Later Saturday..And Sunday.

Look what arrived at Wombie Mark's House!  After the Sturgis On The River affair we stopped in Viola for a beer and some food.  I had to duck out quick, however, because I had a couple things to take care of.  First my Wombie's son and family had arrived from Kansas City and I also wanted to see my new sweetheart, my new car from Indiana which had rolled into the area overnight.

Here she is after having been unloaded at the neighbor's house next door.  Ain't she purty?  But you guys have already met, right?  If not go to July 22nd's post.   One of my fears was that I would be up here for a couple weeks and never see her arrive.   Once I checked out Miss Frump and had a chance to see Aaron, I loaded the bike and took off to Knoxville, so Mark and Holly could spend some alone time with his son and family.

I stayed with Pat in Knoxville on Saturday night and we had root beer floats, chatted about stuff, and I looked at some pictures of her nice family.  I even saw a movie of little great-grandkidling Addie Mae.  She is a cutie, too.

I made it to Pat's before the rain started and it was a doozy.  Having complained of little weather in Florida, it was nice to see a true gulleywasher, and not be riding on a bike, too.  So I pulled a lawn chair over in Pat's car port and watched the downpour.  In fact the sky was great most nights what with the beautiful sunsets and Supermoon.  More on that in an upcoming post.

The next morning I packed up once again and went back to Aledo to see my nephew, Aaron, and his family, wife Kate, and kids Izzy and Annie, off back to their home in Kansas City.

This is Izzy, a beautiful kid who was invited by Mark and Holly to autograph the porch fireplace bricks.

Having completed the task she seemed quite pleased.

Family portrait time!  Everyone gather round, Mike's taking our portrait.

Put the kids just so, and everyone get set, and...

Voila!  They call me "One-Shot Mike".  This picture was done with only one take and it was good enough, we just didn't need another.  From left to right:  Holly, Mark, Izzy, Kate, Annie and Aaron.

Annie seemed somewhat bored with the whole thing.

And then all packed and leaving for home in Kansas City.

Aaron took this picture of Mark and I in the open-air Jeep.

It was nice to Aaron and his family while I was back.   But I'm also glad I cleared out Saturday night so Mark and Holly could spend some good "alone" type time with them.  I certainly didn't want to be like Boo Radley skulking about the shadows and corners.

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant
