Piper Fire Employee Night At Brighthouse Field

Mackenzie works for Piper Fire near Clearwater and they do things periodically for the help.  Tonight was a Single A baseball game between the Clearwater Thrashers and the Charlotte Stone Crabs.  The Thrashers are a Phillies affiliate and the Stone Crabs are the Rays affiliate.  The catch was all the food for our party was free.  All night...endless...free.  We munched away like starving French Legionaires.  We watched a little baseball with virtually kids playing, and amused ourselves with a fun evening out.  The five of us had a great time and I dig free food.  Just like BFE Community Center.

Entering Brighthouse Field, home of the High-A Threshers, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Any ballpark has its own beauty.

Like most minor league parks, plenty of seating available.  I'm not sure what the attendance figures were, but a decent crowd.

Most of these players will not make it to the bigs.  So they are destined for careers riding long bus trips to remote areas for little pay.

This is Brandon Tripp who is, according tot he scouts, Major League bound.

Here we are enjoying the game, the free food and Norah at her first baseball game.

Perfect spot for a foul ball.

Discussing strategy.  Usually there is little strategy to be formed: just strike the batter out.

Not really sure what this serape adorned gator is supposed to be.  The team mascot in full regalia scaring more than charming.

Hmmm.  Let's see.  An alligator adorned with Mexican serape and sombrero.  And the teams called the Threshers?  Got me.

Beautiful evening and tonight is the Super Moon.

7th inning stretch.

Brighthouse Field, home of the Threshers and Spring Training home of the Phillies.

Colorful sunset.

Super Moon and flag.

Fun outing after returning from up north for the wedding.  Gave us all a chance to do something fun and get out Florida face on.  Thanks again Kenzie for the treat and thanks to Piper Fire for sponsoring the outing.

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant
