Take Out the Trash Day

This is a true story.  It happened in August while I was up in Northlandia.  I had gone in the middle of the night to Keithsburg to take pictures of the barges and decided to go back to Emerald City by way of Seaton, the Jewel of Mercer County.  Just before I got to the bluff I noticed these lights and saucers. I sped up and once I got to the bluff I wanted to see what was happening and decided to take the Bluff road to a spot where you can see the valley below.  I saw one of the saucers float over a house and emitted some kind of signal light or beam right on top of it.  Suddenly it started to snow.  In August.  Just in this one spot.  I wondered if Neil Kastor predicted it?   I got back on the main road and drove as fast as I could to warn the poor citizens of Seaton that we were under attack by aliens.  But as I approached town, and pushed the button to open the trunk so I could use it as a wind break, I saw that I was too late.  Much of the north west part o

A Piece Of My Mind

"Scientists indicate that salmon and other types of fish are naturally predisposed to the journey upstream. According to an article in USA Today, scientists state that home odors are embedded in the minds of certain fish. Home odors are smells that are unique to each body of water. When the fish reach maturity and wish to spawn, or reproduce, they are instinctively drawn back to the place of their birth by the home odors."  Is that why I want to return to Northlandia?  Well, I'm not sure.  I can't smell Illinois from here.  All I smell is recycled water, dog farts and exhaust fumes from Roosevelt Boulevard.  And while every one of my immediate and less immediate family members reside within 15 minutes, the tug of Northlandia is sometimes so strong that only a bowl of ice cream can assuage it.   My go-to comment whenever this comes up in conversations is that my family is here, but my fun and friends are someplace else.  Perhaps one could replace fun wi

Tuesday Tidbits

Halloween is a big deal down here.  I think it is because it is always nice, weather wise, here.  I also think it is Florida.  Well, Halloween was invented for this place due to its people.  It rivals Christmas - in fact I'd say folks here decorate more for Halloween than Christmas but I can't prove it. Here are some pics and a video I took this year.      ++++++++++ Me and Whitey's, pea salad, ham loaf, La Gondola torpedo, Tanner's cider donuts, real weather, night sky, picture-taking, droning. ++++++++++ Saw this article last week in a local news feed. PINELLAS PARK, Fla. ( WPEC ) — Police arrested a Florida man on Oct. 22 after they say he did some inappropriate things to some plush toys at a Target, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department. According to the affidavit, 20-year-old Cody Christopher Meader approached a "Frozen" toy display at a Target in Pinell
