Tuesday Tidbits

I saw this somewhere and liked it.  I suppose it sums up all our individual appreciation of art.

I have tried to buy a SUV, a motorcycle, and a dog, while up in Northlandia.  Guess I'd better come to my senses or get back down South.

We had some pretty strong overnight storms last week. I woke up and watched from the garage for a while.  I love good old Midwest thunderboomers.

Me and the Frump out on a little cruise.

I was a fan of the McLaughlin Group years ago and discovered it is still on PBS on my free-TV at the Cabin.  John McLaughlin, the moderator is still going but his aged constricting body is barely able to sit in a chair these days.  It is painful to look at him.  Hey John, there are worst things than retirement.

Speaking of my free TV, on Saturday nights there is a spoof-filled show called Svengoolie and he hosts an old horror movie.  It is as close to the old Acri Creature Feature as there is on TV these days.  Some of the great classic old movies he has shown in the past weeks include The Incredible Shrinking Man, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, The Leech Woman and Island of Lost Souls.  Nothing else like it on TV anymore.

Salutations to old work and neighborhood friend Tom Harrison and his daughter Rayanne.  Finally found them at home on Saturday and it was great to see them.  Nicest family there ever was - sorry I missed the others: Ronda, Ian and Logan; next time, if you don't call the cops.

Kind of a strange Sunday.  Went down to the river at 2:30 am then home, a nap and off to G-Burg for Railroad Days Car Show in Miss Frump.  Once I got there I didn't want to sit on Main Street for 4 hours so I headed to Monmouth and through Little York and back to the Cabin.  Guess I just needed to drive.  Besides, Dr. Allen wanted me to get all the old gas out, so that's what I did.  Once home another nap and then only 4 o'clock.  Seemed like a long long day.

One more week in the Cabin in the Woods until I return South to continue being manny to Alfred and Norah and then back in late summer.  I have been mowing since I've been here and might look into buying a couple sheep in the Fall.  I cleaned out the gutters and the woodstove.  Getting ready for winter.

Ran into someone and was shocked by how old they looked.  Then I realized I was older.  Yikes!

Free TV is great - I get 2 hours of Judge Judy daily.  Yikes again!

Miss Maddie, who owns Mr. and Mrs. Wombie, looks like she was able to get halfway out of her bed one morning and then just decided the effort wasn't worth it.

If I had to do it all over again, I would seriously have looked into working a barge for a couple years.

This perky little thing is on Neighbor Tim's garage wall and has been for years.  This also happens to be the most posted picture on Existing In BFE  blog.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Florida Air Museum - Part 3

Welcome back to a pretty neat tour of the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland Florida.  There's a lot to see and a couple of the old Geezer Gold Wing guys are already sitting down instead of walking around looking at the exhibits. That's John who is wore out and making a call to his wife.  In all honesty, John was pretty well bushed before the ride.  He told me his daughter's family was down from one of the Carolina's with the grand kids and he must have played with them too much.   He's about to take off on his own and head for home, but he's going to miss a couple of neat things out on Hangar A.   But, before we walk over there, we have lots yet to see here.  If you saw The Aviator with Leonardo DiCaprio playing Howard Hughes, you'll remember that he went up in a plane during the filming of one of his movies to prove a point about flying.  He crashed trying to execute a roll and this is a picture of the plane he crashed.  Note the propeller
