I'm not that hard to please, really. Sad songs make me cry, cool songs make me tap my toe, and neat old cars make my heart beat a little faster. I can give or take Facebook and my heart will always belong in Northlandia. So I wasn't wildly optimistic about the great eclipse but I thought it would be stunning enough to give me the chills.
I decided to take my position along the Keithsburg dyke so I might have something interesting to look at while waiting for the big show. My batteries were juiced and so I arrived almost scared I'd be too late to find a spot. Well, no problem there, I was the only one. The following pictures are a few minutes before, during and after the eclipse.
I don't know about you guys, but I was underwhelmed. I saw the same thing three times that day, sunrise, the eclipse and sunset. Big deal. They said it would be 92% coverage, and I guess that shows me just how bright the sun is. I was joined by a car from Wisconsin and later they stopped by wanting to know where Muscatine was. Yeah, that's gotta be more interesting. At least I saw a barge. I won't get so excited when the next big one is in 2024.
