"Born as Bruce Reimer, one of twin boys to Janet and Ron Reimer, Bruce's penis was destroyed in a circumcision accident when he was 8 months old. His parents consulted Dr. John Money at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, who advised Bruce's parents to also have his testes removed and raise him as a girl. He was renamed Brenda and treated as female by his family from then on. Dr. Money theorizied that gender identity is largely the result of social learning, and believed that if Brenda never knew the truth of her birth, she would successfully transition to a female. However, Brenda's childhood and adolescence was difficult. She and her twin brother Brian were extensively studied by Dr. Money; both twins later alleged they were sexually abused by Money during some of the treatments. By the age of 14, Brenda was suicidially depressed and begged her parents to discontinue her treatment with Dr. Money. The Reimers ceased her treatment and finally told the twins the truth of Brenda's birth. Brenda then decided to live as a male, and changed her name to David. In the next few years David underwent further surgeries to reverse his sex reassignment, and later married a woman and became a stepfather to her children. Dr. Money, however, continued to describe David's original sex reassignment (from male to female) as a success, which lead David to speak out in 1997 to make his side of the story known, and to try to dissuade other physicians from treating other infants as he had been treated. Brian, David's twin, began having mental problems after learning the truth about his sibling, and eventually committed suicide in 2002. In 2004, David, depressed over his failing marriage and continued psychological problems, also took his own life. The story of Bruce/Brenda/David Reimer was the subject of the book "As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl" and the BBC documentary "Dr. Money and the Boy With No Penis." Dr. Money died in 2006."

Sounds like a Springer story, but too tragic to make light of. A simply astonishingly sad story.

  2. What a terrible story I think It is ridiculous to believe sexual orientation is a result of your environment or society. Gay people aren't brought up to be gay in many cases just the opposite they are pressured to be normal or what there family believes is normal they fight it for years before coming as they say out of the closet.

OVCC

This is the driveway to the Oak View Country Club in Aledo.  The pictures were sent to me by Mrs. Wombie last week.  There's been at least one Blythe member for the last 60 years.  At one point there were three of them. This is the drive from the main road that will take you to the Clubhouse, cart sheds and the #1 tee off.   For most of those 60 years we have been driving up this road the hillsides were full of lush green oak trees.  Now it is littered with fallen limbs and trunks.  Now if you want lush, turn around and try somewhere else, lush left this place last year.  The grass is greening here today, and the guys who make this a beautiful course are doing their thing.  But golfing will be a less fun time this year.  This year will take a little to get used to.  A whole lot more sun will be shining on the course, and some golfer's scores will lower just a tad.  The trees that kept the sun from shining everywhere, and the trees that made some errant shots impossible, are go…

Dabbling Again

Now that I have procured a space on the front porch at Sinkhole Estates, or as I call it, Death Valley,  I have begun painting again.  This is one I did most recently blocking in some colors and about 75% finished.  It is Alfred playing in the water at the swimming pool.  I should have it done soon and that other little number there in black is already in the planning stages.

One of the hard parts, having done a painting of Norah a few years ago, is getting the hair right.  It isn't red and it isn't blond.  It is a golden blond/strawberry red depending on the light.  I've already tried mixing up some shades and don't have it right yet.

One other thing.  My area is on the front porch and there is no air conditioning out there.  It prevents being out there in the hottest parts of the day but cools a bit in the evening.  I was sitting inside one day looking out and wondering if my painting would get wrecked by the heat. And like the dumbass I am I remembered that the great…

My New Vibrams

This isn't exactly a sign of the apocalypse but every so often you go outside the norm. Not just the norm but your norm.  Exceeding both I recently purchased a pair of 5-Finger KSO Vibram's.  There were a number of reasons:

            1.  I am beginning to hate wearing shoes because most cause me some discomfort
            2.  Shawn McCutcheon recommended checking them out
            3.  I read somewhere that running/jogging in shoes is unnatural
            4.  Looking for medium-cheap thrills

Your faithful blogger wearing my new Vibrams.

They feel like just wearing a sock and with rubberized soles you can wear them anywhere.

These little Hobbit feet shoes may look weird, but they feel great.

There are several styles, such as Classic which is a slip-on, a shoe-lace version,  and my Velcro-strap style.  Also many color combinations as well as purpose.
So far I really really enjoy my Vibrams and would recommend them for anyone.  They are much more comfy than socks and ill-fit…
