A faithful reader wanted to know about that obnoxious ass I have been referring to the past couple of posts. I was stuck next to him when we ate so I had an opportunity, or rather displeasure, to listen to him. His transgressions were, as best I can remember, the following:
1. He chatted and chatted and chatted. He talked too much. He monopolized the conversation and most of it was about himself, a fatal flaw in any conversation. The point is to elicit views and comments from others, not hog the spotlight.
2. He talked up his career. After we learned he was an EMT, why then did we have to hear about the number of years, or how the ladies liked the looks of him in his uniform, or how it helped him score with the ladies?
3. One phrase that will turn me off instantaneously is: "I work hard and I play hard." He used this phrase not once, but twice. He talked about how good he was, how popular he was at the station, and how he couldn't retire yet because the world needed him.
4. He asked me, quite confidentially, if our trip leader ( a pretty cool lady by the name of Jaime) was a man, or rather a transvestite? He claimed she had an Adams' Apple. First, how the hell would I know, and second, this falls under the "I can talk nasty about people in my group, but no newcomer should" heading.
5. He then goes over to where she is playing pool and attempts to score with her. Idiot.
6. He did agree with me that the group goes too fast, which, naturally took my mind off why I detested him so much, for a few seconds, anyway. He also said he may not join the group anymore, which also took my mind off why I detested him, again for a few seconds.
7. Other than that, nice guy.
