They say photographs never lie. Well, of course they do. The following are beautiful people who just happen to have had a poor shot taken of them. Pictures lie all the time. They catch us in unflattering moments, a mere second of time in all the seconds that we are at our worst.
The following pictures point out the lies cameras tell. One more thing - always be the one taking the pictures, then you can destroy the evidence so some guy like me doesn't comb through the archives finding these little treasures.
This was taken in 1981 after a volleyball game. This isn't indigestion, it's just that someone took her picture and she isn't thrilled. The truth is that Rose is the most upbeat happy, positive, pretty person I know. Except this one second out of all the seconds.
Again, in the late 80's or early '90's, I'm not sure what Herb is doing here, but it looks an awful lot like he is ready for the fun to end and hit the sack. He is either yawning or bursting out in song. My guess is it's late, and perhaps we should go to bed so these good people can leave.
This is Robin Glasnovich, a co-worker at the Mary Davis Home on her wedding day. A great girl, good worker and a good sport for mugging at the camera. Sadly, Robin passed away a few years ago.
Another wedding picture. This one of the newly minted Carrie Stage letting the camera man have it. She dared me and I did. This was taken on 8/9/10.
Brother Phil taking my kids out on a short boat ride on a lake he had in his back yard when he lived in Aledo. Phil is usually very attentive and always a great host, but it looks like he is dying of boredom here.
I suspect Marj was saying something like, "Don't you dare take my picture." Poor Marj. She fought to the end attempting to civilize us.
Lastly, the current Mrs. Blythe. Not known for mugging she let down her guard just for a second and guess what? This second lasts forever. Gotcha.
All these guys are good sports. No single digit salutes, just fun mugging with the camera or blissfully unaware. Either way, the camera lies sometimes, usually to our benefit.
Finally, friends, remember: the guy with the camera never gets their picture taken. Be that guy. Carry your camera always. There are priceless pictures to take; seconds to keep.
