On the east edge of Emerald City (on the road to the North lagoon) are the fairgrounds and a ball field.  Across the road is an open field with these grain bins.  When I got out of the truck I saw something walking around the base of the bins.  I took my flashlight and saw it was a skunk.  I didn't bother him and he didn't stink-bomb me.

I'm Flying!

Flying has not lost its charms on me.  I am still, after all, a small town kid and the thrill of it all is still just as real and palpable as the first time I climbed on board a plane.  That was back in my graduate days.  I took an Ozark flight from Denver to Waterloo and then to Peoria.  One could say that after flying with them each day since has been a gift.  Today I fly Allegiant and while they are at the bottom of safety maintenance and mechanical failure, no flight has ever crashed.  Knock on wood!  Where's some wood!  I can't find wood!  OK, I found a window sill.

These are the fields, small towns and by-ways of the Midwest.  This flight, taking back to Kitschland from a few weeks up North in June was one of those late afternoon, night flights that are pretty awesome.

The cloud formations confirmed the cockpit announcement that there was some foul weather ahead.  I tried to get some lightening in the clouds but never saw any.  The ride was probably as bumpy as I've ex…
