Tuesday Tidbits

Got my tickets for Northlandia.  Too far away yet to get excited.  But I got 'em.  Damn, I can't wait for August 2019.

I don't understand the women who buy those blouses with the giant holes in the shoulders.  Then we get to see the bra straps.

That's like holes in gym shorts so you can see jock straps.

Why do people ask if they can ask a "quick question"?  Does that imply its easier to answer or that they think we have no tolerance for longer ones?

An asteroid impacted the earth's atmosphere Saturday (June 2). I'd love to see something like this.  I have heard the story a few times of some folks in Burgess who saw some kind of meteor/asteroid strike a few years ago.

Word came out from an investigation last week that Facebook, in addition to Russian hackers,  also granted access to four Chinese companies, one listed as a national security threat, to your data.  It's all up to you guys of course, but I'm not helping any foreign country to help weaken my country.

Melodramatic?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

It was with surprise, amusement and nostalgia that I stumbled upon an open doorway at a local nursery to find it full of straw and hay.  If lilacs are the scent of Spring, then baled by-gods is one of the scents of summer.

To see the people lined along the tracks as RFK's funeral train rolled slowly by 50 years ago speaks volumes.  Black people standing respectfully.  Boy Scouts with their hands over their hearts.  White people holding flags.  Was this the death, also, of hope?

Dumbstruck the Wonder Pup aka Whizzbang

Week 9

Whizzy had her first vet visit last Saturday.  All systems are "go".  She handled it like a trooper.  Stool test and three shots $320.00.  Next month spaying: $420.  After that it should be cheap and easy for a while.  I'm doing what I can to stimulate the economy.

Here's Dumbstruck doing a little online surfing.  Be sure to monitor your dog's internet viewing.  Watch those sites that have pooch porn.

I love weekends.  But I'll love it better on a Yamaha.

Playing around with a change in the Existing In BFE format.   It's gonna happen, just don't know when.  Be prepared.

Charles Krauthammer has announced he is dying and only has a few weeks left.  I wasn't a huge fan, working for Fox News and all that, but I respected him as an observer of a particular point of view.  His stock went up when he eventually pulled away from Trump, as many conservatives have (Bill Krystol, George Wills,  Charlie Sykes, Glenn Beck, Erick Erickson).

4:13 AM ET as I am jogging on my early morning route, I am crossing a street and a car pulls up to the stop sign and rolls down his window.  He yells, "Better pick it up a beat, Buddy."  I yell back "its early but this is about as fast as it gets."  We both laugh.

Fun way to start the day.

I finally found a reason to like Melania.  Filling out an expensive wardroom isn't enough for me, nor is being married to Trump, nor is that anti-cyber bullying thing.  Let's be honest, she didn't want to be FLOTUS and probably doesn't like her "pussy grabbing" hubby, so, what's to like?  Her response to toady Rudy was priceless and scored points with me.

I took no pictures during the process but I made 3 rhubarb pies last week.  Publix got a batch in and I bought them out.  One pie each went to Mackenzie and Brendan, the last one, the one I burned, went to me.

If I may be allowed to whine a bit. this past weekend was a tough one for me.  I received some pics from neighbor Tim as he was out riding.  I need to be there, I want to be there.  I have to wait a bit until I wrap things up here, but I fully intend on spending a great deal more time in Northlandia once my babysitting obligations are over.  Florida has less allure for me as each day passes.  Like dumb alewives, I keep swimming upstream, and hope I've got enough strength left once I reach my destination.

It's OK to fuck up.  It's not OK to not fix it.

And speaking of babysitting...

Whatever you do for a living, it could always be worse.

Flashback Friday

Class, Or Lack Thereof The Dwight Vice gravestone in Oquawka, Illinois. I bring this old chestnut out every so often just to remind me that class is classless.  Dwight Vice was killed in his home near Oquawka in 2001.  It was one of those things that can generate crime:  two guys thought Dwight had a lot of money stashed at home because of his pot-selling sideline to supplement his fishing job.   Not really one of those big drug deals gone-bad things.  Marijuana was, according to the trial, about the only stuff Dwight sold.   But these two guys barge into the house and killed Dwight and attempted to kill his 11 year old kid, Darryl, before they took off with what money they could find.   His son, now 23, was stabbed in the back and left for dead.  He survived and is wheelchair bound and has undergone several surgeries to repair his wounds.  He will be paralyzed for life.   None of this is pleasant.  Reading the facts of the murder and attempted murder are most unpleasant

Summer Swim

It's Monday and the start of another work week.  Except for me.  I have the week off because the parents of my daycare charges are taking the week off, too. This is one of those wordless posts I love on Mondays so I can put my laziness in full view of loyal readers.  These pics need no words.  Why muddy the waters?   They were taken at the pool at Sinkhole Estates aka Death Valley.  The nice thing about this pool is it is heated in winter.  If one must find positives in one's situation, I suppose that is one.  But, please, no more.

Florida Air Museum - Part 3

Welcome back to a pretty neat tour of the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland Florida.  There's a lot to see and a couple of the old Geezer Gold Wing guys are already sitting down instead of walking around looking at the exhibits. That's John who is wore out and making a call to his wife.  In all honesty, John was pretty well bushed before the ride.  He told me his daughter's family was down from one of the Carolina's with the grand kids and he must have played with them too much.   He's about to take off on his own and head for home, but he's going to miss a couple of neat things out on Hangar A.   But, before we walk over there, we have lots yet to see here.  If you saw The Aviator with Leonardo DiCaprio playing Howard Hughes, you'll remember that he went up in a plane during the filming of one of his movies to prove a point about flying.  He crashed trying to execute a roll and this is a picture of the plane he crashed.  Note the propeller
